FOLK Cafe + Market

Project Overview

Mona Lisa Living was awarded a construction contract through Design Core Detroit’s competitive grant process that aimed to support local businesses to rapidly adapt to new COVID-19 safety protocols. With the use of pine wood & a modified design, we maintained the desired contemporary aesthetic. Our subs, 75% of which were minority-owned businesses, hand-built a wall-to-wall post shelving system, point of sale counter, an espresso counter with window display, a centerpiece banquet table, and an eating countertop. Additional improvements included a pitcher and floor sink for the espresso counter and electrical upgrades to support the new equipment. All finishes and fixtures were updated, resulting in a bright, natural, and inviting space that would attract both new and old friends of FOLK’s to enjoy.
